As I’m writing this, the Coronavirus is still in full force across the planet. Never before have we seen such a global response to something that threatens our survival. I personally lean towards the optimistic side of things these days, but I want to do something different and take a moment to honor the fear.. because it does have something to say. Make no mistake, what is happening right now is dead serious. We should be afraid for the future of our survival. But not because of the virus. What this is really about is a wake up call for humanity. We’ve had countless warnings before, but the hour is late now, and there is no more room for us to ignore the reality of our certain future if we continue down the path we’ve been living. So for once, let’s get real about what is actually happening.
We all know of course that eventually, “this too shall pass.” And it will. Still, we’ve had enough already and want so badly for things to return back to normal so we can all feel safe again and get back to business. Well to that I say, sorry.. not so fast. Life as we know it is about to change as a result of this pandemic. So while we still have a moment to reflect, let us seriously contemplate the underlying implications of the situation we’re in.
To start, let’s take a closer look at this “normal” we want back so badly. If we do a high-level survey of humanity, things are not looking good. For the past 100 years, we’ve been in a non-stop race to advance society in the name of progress. Today we’re more connected, more safe, more socially conscious, and more comfortable than we’ve ever been in the history of mankind. But as we marvel at our own progress, we’ve become blind to the consequences of our unsustainable ways. If you haven’t noticed by now, the planet is seriously suffering. Humanity is suffering. And most importantly, our human spirit is suffering from this false material existence we worship so much.
Can’t you see? We’re not happy. We’re not healthy. We slave away our lives working jobs we don’t like so that we earn enough money to cover up the emptiness of not living a truly fulfilling, joyful, meaningful life. And so we buy more and more things we don’t need, just to impress more people we don’t even like. We’re not authentic anymore, because authenticity has been replaced by illusory ideals that we adopted from a society that doesn’t even care about one another. Everyone is in competition with each other. Everyone is afraid and filled with hatred and anger. The only time we come together is when there is something else to fight. Everything has become a war against something.
Just look at what it’s doing to us.. to our health, to the animals, to the air, to the waters, to the Earth. Look at our wars, the corruption, the lies, the poverty. We can all see this right? No? How about our environment? How many more times do we need to be warned about how little time we have before it’s too late? Are we just sitting around waiting for someone else to come save us? Do we just need to vote in better leaders? Who on this Earth has the power to actually stand up for our future and start taking massive Corona level action? Surely not us right? We’re too small and disorganized to achieve anything on the level of change that is needed. That’s how weak and powerless we feel. We’re paralyzed by the magnitude of the mess we find ourselves in. So we expend all our energy arguing, blaming, and pointing the finger at one another for standing in the way of supporting the ideologies we personally believe will solve all our problems. We’re always right, and they’re always wrong.
Let me ask you, how is that working for us? When we look around this planet, do we like what we see? If there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that our leaders, institutions and corporations are not doing enough to turn this thing around. The things we’ve been doing are far too little, far too late. Even worse, the wealthy and powerful people we’ve entrusted our whole lives are one by one being exposed for corruption and collusion beyond our wildest imagination. And we all know this. They disappoint us time and time again, on all sides of the aisle.. and just like traumatized children, we keep crawling back as if we could not survive without them. But what else can we do?
If there’s one thing the Coronavirus has shown me, it’s our inability to come together to work towards anything meaningful. All we do is argue. We don’t respect each other anymore. Everyone is compartmentalized in their little groups. “This is my race, my nation, my gender, my political identity, my academic identity, my social cause. Everyone else is ignorant and the only problem is that the world isn’t thinking more like I do.” We see this happening right now. The lefties are blaming Trump (and all who support him) for not keeping us safe. The righties are blaming the lefties for taking away their freedom. The conspiracy theorists are blaming the powers that be while everyone else is blaming the conspiracy theorists for being delusional and spouting crazy non-sense ideas.
We all think we’re right and others are wrong. And so this is what’s happening. We’re being pitted against one another, siphoning our collective outrage into issues that distract us from the more obvious, serious issues we could be unifying on. Why is this happening? How did we get so far removed from harmony, community, belonging? From love? You want to know the reason? Here it is: we’ve forgotten our true nature. We are not actually separate from one another the way we think we are. This is a construct of our minds trapped in these meat suits we call who we are. We think that “I think, therefore I am”. There’s me, my body, and my mind, and then there’s the rest of the world out there. Separate. But we’ve forgotten. We’ve forgotten that we are spiritual beings having a temporary human experience. The separation is an illusion we believe is real. We are all one.
Even hearing this may sound like non-sense to you, because if you grew up in a Western society, you’ve been disconnected from the notion that you even have a spirit inside of you. And why is that? We don’t look up at the stars anymore and realize the infinite vastness of the universe we are a part of. We slaughter animals by the billions each year without much regard because we believe they are not equally worthy as us. We stay indoors in our air conditioning and stare at devices that are no more alive than a black mirror. We don’t respect each other and we don’t respect life, all because we believe we are separate from it. As long as we remain disconnected from our spiritual nature, we will treat the outside world as disposable for our own personal entertainment and survival.
If we think the Coronavirus is bad, just wait and see what else the Universe has in store for us. This is our final warning. It’s time to wake up. Let go of your identities and ideologies. Your pet ideas of right vs. wrong. Let go of your self-righteousness. Get out of your head and into your heart. Realize that we have so much more in common than we do different. When you disagree with someone, you don’t have to see them as the enemy. Realize that they too have forgotten. They too are victims of their own intellect and imagination, just like you. Look closer and you will see, somewhere deep inside even the people you hate the most, there’s a light inside that is the same as the light in you. We all want to be free. We all want to experience peace and joy and love. We just have different ideas of how to get there, that’s all. And that’s okay. Let us look beyond those differences for once, and focus on where we are the same.
This is a call for a global awakening. It is as much of an inward journey as it is about politics and action. We need that too, but we must start with what we can control immediately. Ourselves. Every single thought, word, and action we take, especially when nobody is looking, is a vote for the world we wish to see. Treat every moment of your day as sacred. Don’t take the small things for granted. Honor yourself and your body. Treat yourself as you would treat another. Do the things that elevate your spirit, rather than drown out your fears. Do the right thing and grow beyond yourself. This world is a co-creation, and it starts with you.
And in terms of creating the outward revolution necessary to save humanity? What if I told you we could start on that right now? There is a whole list of changes we could demand, today, that are completely non-partisan.. meaning, we could all agree that at least this much can be done. Let’s have fair elections. Let’s have transparency in government and corporations. Let’s plug up all the obvious loopholes that allow corruption to persist. Let’s come together and expand this list. Let’s figure out what are all the things that will one by one return the power back to the people. And then, let’s demand that our leaders immediately implement these universal changes. No exceptions. If they say no, let’s not stand for it. If we lay down our swords for once and actually unify together as a global community, we can’t imagine how much power we would have. And we do all this with love. For each other and the planet. No more fear, hatred, violence or anger. This is a peaceful, yet powerful process. Can you imagine it? Or does it seem like a fantasy to you? Are you too shy to participate? Let’s find out. Stay tuned for a future video around this message that will encourage all to share this with everyone they know, spread the word, and show the world what a real virus looks like. ❤️
